Report from November 21, 2024 School Board Meeting

December meeting dates:  Monday Dec. 9:  Special Board Meeting; Tuesday Dec 17: Regular Board meeting and annual organization meeting

Here are the links to the agenda and YouTube video of the meeting.  The school board meetings have been unbelievably short this year.

Below is the time stamp from the video with highlights of topics likely to be of interest to our members.  The first two items are out of order from the agenda.

  • 7:40 [Item X on the agenda - FCLA report]  FCLA gave their report time to Riverview Stem.  Take a few minutes to see their ppt and listen to the kids talk about STEM and the Girls Robotics Team speak about competition and demo their robot.  Their poise and love of STEM are what we want for all of our students.

  • 21:00 [Item VIII b]  Outgoing board member, and current board president, Tim Hooey was recognized at his last board meeting.  We thank Tim for his service and in particular for his role in the new way the district is handling supplemental funding to sites.  We wish him well as he finds new ways to fill his time on Thursday nights.

  • 38:45 FCEA President’s report.  Jeannette spoke about (1) Pk-2 behavioral task force and (2) how teacher voice and input has been sought out recently in surveys about Oct 14 PD, SPED inclusion, Benefits, and Evaluations.  She emphasized that this is most effective when that input is sought BEFORE a program is implemented.

  • 48:50 Board Policies:  These were largely brought to the board to bring them in compliance with current Ed Code.

    • Passed:

      • BP 9323  Meeting Conduct

      • BP 4118 Dismissal/Suspension/Discipline

      • BP 4216 Probationary/Permanent Status

      • BP 5121.8  Mobile Communication Devices - This was discussed at length at a prior board meeting.   Language was revised so 9-12 sites may request in consultation with site staff to participate in the policy and requires that SAB be consulted prior to changes in policy at sites.  This gives schools flexibility and the people in the schools affected by the policies an important voice.

    • Pulled for further review/input:

      • BP 0410  Nondiscrimination in District Programs and Activities & BP 1212.3  Uniform Complaint Procedures  & BP 4119.11/4219.11/4319.11: Sex Discrimination and Sex-Based Harassment- pulled to have employee groups provide oversight and to see what comes from CSBA meeting discussions in December

      • BP 4040 Employee use of Tech - pulled to clarify some of the langage and policies
